Wal-Mart Recognizes Gaffney Lewis & Edwards, LLC for Excellence in Diversity.
Columbia, S.C., October 24, 2011 — The law firm of Gaffney Lewis & Edwards, LLC was recently presented with an award for excellence in diversity at Wal-Mart’s Outside Counsel Superconference in Bentonville, Arkansas. Over 700 attorneys who represent Wal-Mart throughout the country attended the conference and Gaffney Lewis & Edwards was one of only five recipients recognized for its commitment and dedication to diversity in the legal profession.
Susan Edwards and Amy Gaffney have been selected for the 2011 edition of Columbia’s Legal Elite. Greater Columbia Business Monthly invited Midlands’s attorneys to nominate attorneys they consider the best in their practice area. There were 10 different practice categories and the top ten in each category will be listed in the October 2011 issue. Susan Edwards and Amy Gaffney were selected as one of the Midlands top attorneys. Susan Edwards was selected in the area of Family Law and Amy Gaffney was selected in the Labor and Employment area.
Regina Hollins Lewis will be a faculty member at the National Bar Association Corporate Leadership Forum Academy to be held on August 2, 2011 at the Hilton in Baltimore.
In September, 2010 Gaffney Lewis & Edwards was approved for membership into NAMWOLF, the National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms. NAMWOLF was established in 2001 with the purpose of encouraging major corporations and public entities to utilize the services of minority and women-owned law firms.
Amy Gaffney, Regina Hollins Lewis and Susan Edwards presented at the South Carolina Association of Convenience Stores’ Spring Symposium on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in Columbia. Attendees were offered advice on liability issues surrounding gasoline drive-offs, asset protection, wage payment and prosecution of claims.
Regina Hollins Lewis served as co-counsel for appellant in the case of Webb v. Sowell, Opinion No. 26807 (April 19, 2010) that overturned college support law in South Carolina. In Webb the South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that requiring parents subject to child support order, but not other parents, to contribute to their children’s college expenses violates the Equal Protection clauses of the State and Federal Constitutions. Effective Witness Questioning: Developing Successful Courtroom Skills was offered by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) April 21-23, 2010. Regina Hollins Lewis was on the faculty and was among a hand-selected group of attorneys who were teaching on various aspects of witness examination during trial.
The attorneys of Gaffney Lewis Edwards, in conjunction with Callison Tighe and Robinson, sponsored the Stewards of Children training offered by Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands in March, 2010.
