Family Law
From the decision to file through settlement, mediation and trial, Gaffney Lewis & Edwards has represented men and women in all stages of the divorce process. Our family law practice also includes post-divorce actions such as requests for modification or enforcement on issues such as child custody, visitation and support.
Family law matters we have handled include:
- Child custody and visitation: We will help you establish and implement custody and visitation arrangements that are in the best interests of your children while preserving your rights as a parent. We will review proposed custody and visitation plans to ensure that the educational, medical, religious and other special needs of your children are taken into consideration.
- Child support: We will review all proposed child support orders for compliance with South Carolina guidelines and to ensure that all relevant sources of income are properly factored into the calculation.
- Alimony or spousal support: Our attorneys will help you determine whether a grant of alimony is appropriate and, if so, the proper amount, frequency and duration of payments.
- Property settlements: We will help you equitably distribute the debts and assets of your marriage, including pension plans, retirement funds, business assets, real property and bank accounts or investments.
- Modification and enforcement actions: If your circumstances have changed since your divorce, we can help you seek modification of a child support or child custody order. Likewise, if your ex-spouse is not complying with a court order, we can help you use the court’s power to enforce the judgment.
If you are considering getting married, we can help you protect your assets through a prenuptial agreement. We also advise clients regarding reconciliation agreements.
